Join us for a live webinar on the 15th October 16.00–17.00 (GMT) at which Professor Axel Behrens (Cancer Research UK Convergence Science Centre Scientific Director) is pleased to host Professor Ramon Vilar and Dr Marco Di Antonio.
15thOctober 16.00–17.00
Professor Ramon Vilar - Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London
Molecular tools to probe the chemical biology of nucleic acids
&
Dr Marco Di Antonio - Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London
Chemical modification of CRISPR-Cas9 proteins for light-controlled manipulation of the epigenome
As part of its mission to facilitate collaboration between traditionally separate and distinct disciplines to innovate new ways to address challenges in cancer - the Cancer Research UK Convergence Science Centre will be bringing you a series of webinars over the coming months showcasing the expertise and technology of Imperials brightest minds in chemistry, bioengineering, physics and maths.
Please join us to inspire consideration of how these novel technologies could be used to shed light on unresolved problems in cancer biology and bring innovative treatment to cancer patients faster. Join us for a live webinar on the 15th October 16.00–17.00 (GMT) at which Professor Axel Behrens (Cancer Research UK Convergence Science Centre Scientific Director) is pleased to host Professor Ramon Vilar and Dr Marco Di Antonio.
Professor Vilar will provide a brief overview of the research in his group before focusing on specific examples aimed at understanding the cellular function of non-canonical DNA structures (such as G-quadruplexes). Dr Marco Di Antonio will be discussing his labs work investigating chemical modification of CRISPR-Cas9 proteins for light-controlled manipulation of the epigenome. There will also be time for a short Q&A at the end of the session.
Please note: This webinar is exclusively available only to colleagues across the Institute of Cancer Research, Imperial College London, the Royal Marsden Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare.
About the speakers:
Professor Ramon Vilar is Chair of Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry and director of the Institute of Chemical Biology at Imperial. His research focusses in the development of molecular tools to probe the biological functions of biomolecules (including DNA, proteins and lipids).
Dr Marco Di Antonio has a PhD in Chemistry obtained from Padua University in 2011. After 6 years as PDRA and SRA at Cambridge University working in the Balasubramanian group, Marco was awarded a prestigious BBSRC David Phillips Fellowship to start his own group within the Department of Chemistry at Imperial. Marco’s group works on DNA chemistry and biology, with a particular interest on DNA alternative structures and chemical approaches to devise novel genomics and live cell imaging platforms.
